Kalki Yalamanchili Elected Our New District Attorney

After a long and contentious election, Deborah Gonzalez has finally been given the pink slip. The voters of Athens-Clarke and Oconee Counties have spoken and Kalki Yalamanchili received an overwhelming majority of the votes. It appears the community has agreed that Ms. Gonzalez is incompetent and not qualified for the role of District Attorney.

Interestingly, Ms. Gonzalez made a late night press release suggesting the race was incredibly close with only 623 votes separating the candidates. She later amended the post to only apply her math to Athens-Clarke County. The election results published by the Secretary of State show that Mr. Yalamanchili received a total of 44,984 votes versus Ms. Gonzalez only receiving 30,607 – a difference of 14,377 (19%) of the total votes cast. It appears Ms. Gonzalez forgot again that Oconee County was part of the Western Judicial Circuit.

Although almost 70% of the voters in the democratic leaning Athens-Clarke County voted Kamala Harris for president, 10,000 of them opted to vote for Mr. Yalamanchili despite Ms. Gonzalez being a democrat. While those voters alone would not be enough to overcome Mr. Yalamanchili’s strong support in Oconee County, it also sends a message that may of the democrats did not support Ms. Gonzalez’s failed effort at being a district attorney.

Congratulations to Kalki Yalamanchili! It is time to restore justice in our community.
